RenMei

RenMei is the hetero ship between the fictional characters, Tao Ren and Iron Maiden Jeanne from the Shaman King fandom.

Canon

Ren first sees Jeanne when she reveals herself inside the Iron Maiden during her first fight with Team Niles in the tournament. Unlike the others who had mixed reactions upon seeing her topless appearance, Ren remains unfazed by this and continues to keep watching her speech and the battle.

Later in the story, Yoh’s father, Mikihasa Asakura, meets Ren’s team and decides to train them. When Ren refuses the offer, he fights Mikihisa; despite improving his oversoul, he is unable to defeat Mikihisa. While they recover from the fight, two Patch Officials, Nichrome and Magna, direct Hao’s followers to attack Ren and Mikihasa’s teams, forcing Mikihisa to leave to defend his teammates, a pair of children named Redseb and Seyram Munzer while Ren’s team fights Peyote, Turbine and Zang-Ching. However, Ren eventually gets mortally wounded and dies before Yoh arrives to save them. When Ryu and Faust come to aid Yoh, all of Hao’s soldiers leave. However, to save Ren, Yoh approaches Iron Maiden Jeanne and agrees to her condition that he will withdraw from the Shaman Fight if she will resurrect Ren.

Later, Ren is shown to be laying down on a flowerbed as Jeanne arrives with Lyserg. Before they could start the revival, Marco then stops her and informs her that it was a bad idea to bring him back to life since he murdered one of the ten commissioners of the Patch much to his disgust but Jeanne disagrees as she has made a promise to Yoh that she must keep. Marco eventually gives in but still being cautious, he warns that if Ren were to be revived and caused any great harm afterwards, he asks for permission if they can execute him. Still in spirit form, Ren tries reaching out to Bason to prevent him from being revived but to no avail. Jeanne then brings up the story “Sleeping Beauty” and asks if any one in the room had known the fairy tale. She then explains the fairy tale about how a ‘young girl falls asleep for eternity because of the curse and she gets revived thanks to the kiss of the prince’. Ren then becomes aware of the story and before he could do anything else, Jeanne goes on about the following, “The prince has a Shamanic healing power. Tao Ren will be revived by that kiss'. This causes Ren to blush red and shocked by her words.

As Jeanne recites her revival spell, Ryu crashes through the window out of nowhere, pleading her to give him a kiss but only to see Shamash being the one to deliver the kiss on Ren instead. Marco then threatens to send Ryu to his death when Ren finally wakes up. Feeling annoyed with Ren’s tone of voice and attitude, Marco asks why he didn’t show any gratitude to Jeanne for reviving him. Ren responds by wiping his mouth saying he never asked for her help and spits in another direction. In a harsh tone Ren replies, “In fact it’s a nuisance!”. In response to his harsh words, Jeanne shakes and cries, causing Marco to burst out in rage and attack Ren. Before Marco’s angel can land an attack on Ren, he quickly summons the Togenkyo, attacking all of the X-LAWS angels.

After defeating the X-LAWS, all of the X-LAWS members were shown to be injured except for Jeanne, who is still seen to be in the same place, shaking and crying and is unharmed. When Ren later returns and meets up with Yoh, Yoh notices Ren’s huge scar. Ren mentions it was Maiden’s treatment that was interrupted by Ryu’s sudden outburst.

After the fight ended between Marco and Luchist, the next day later the X-LAWS and Luchist including Opacho gathered at Yoh’s place, eating at the table. Anna gets annoyed by the large crowd they’ve been getting but Luchist reassures her that they are just celebrating Yoh’s return to the tournament. Marco then gets annoyed by the way Luchist is acting as if nothing had happened before yesterday. They then almost clash into another fight until Lyserg calms him down by giving him some chocolate. Before another argument could break out between Marco and the other X-Laws members, Jeanne gives him a cup of coffee and tells him not to fight since they have become “Neo X-LAWS”. Hearing her words, the X-LAWS members cheerfully does their infamous gesture until Ren angrily slams his fists down onto the table, saying he doesn't care about any of them but wanting to hear what Yoh has to say. Horohoro, who has his attention on Jeanne, points out to Ren on how cute she looks while Chocolove slaps Ren’s face, yelling out “This is no time for checking out girls!!”. This causes Ren to get angry and the room starts to get rowdy until Anna’s Shikigamis destroys the table where everyone is sitting, telling them to shut up.

2nd revival

As the group moves to the 2nd plant, they were ambushed and ensnared by Bron, who then kills Ren and Horohoro. Jeanne avoids capture from being in her Iron Maiden and fights back until Lyserg stops her and said it was pointless in wasting her Furyoku on him, which he then later incinerates Bron. Ren and Horohoro were later implied to have been revived by Jeanne and the group gets to the 3rd Plant where they face Magna. He then tries to get rid of Jeanne first and destroys the Iron Maiden, only to find out it’s empty. Ren then appears next to Magna out of nowhere and mentions Jeanne had revived him and Horohoro and had wasted all of her Furyoku, staying behind in the Plant of Valley.

Later as they head to the next plant, Chocolove mentions Ren talked to Jeanne in “secret” which Ren replies that he didn’t want to bother responding to his question.

My own family

After the fight with Nichrome, Ren gets healed up but gets insecure, wondering if he will end up overcoming all his hatred he keeps receiving and create an Oni one day. Yoh then reassures him that he has his friends by his side and states there was another way to kill a heart full of hatred which was “love”. Yoh mentions that Ren too, will be able to find someone special with whom he will form a family one day and make all of the hatred disappear. This causes Ren to blush and Horohoro pokes fun at him, teasingly going “Now it’s time for someone to say the name of the girl you like!”. Ren then proceeds to get angry and fights the others that were teasing him.

Years after the Shaman Fight

After the Shaman fight ended in 2000, everyone went back to their own lives but also doing everything they can to fulfill their long term mission to try and change Hao’s goals on destroying humankind. Ren goes back to school in China and Jeanne reforms the X-LAWS into a charitable organization in which she later travels around the world helping countries that were suffering from the aftermaths of war and devastation. Some time eventually passes and Ren enrolls into Tsuinghua’s university. During his university days in Europe, he reunites with Jeanne at some point and got engaged to her, bringing her back to his country to introduce his fiancee to his family and announcing the news of their marriage. They eventually got married and had a child together much later on. They both learned even more about the importance of life and love by having a child. After Jeanne gave birth to Men, she would eventually go on maternity leave and retire to raise Men, leaving Ren in charge of X-Charity.

The Last Words

7 years later after the Shaman fight, When Horohoro, Chocolove, and Lyserg arrive for their reunion with Yoh and Anna, they all suddenly notice the appearance of a horse driven carriage. As a small boy stepped out, Ren complained about the fact Tokyo was always messy and that no matter where you went there were always crowds and traffic jams, oblivious to the fact that he himself had caused the crowd and traffic. Seeing the resemblance, Horohoro, Lyserg, and Chocolove all thought that the little boy was Ren until Ren himself came out of the carriage and picked up the kid announcing that the boy is his son, Tao Men. While waiting for Yoh and Anna, Horohoro asks Ren who the mother of the child is, only for Ren to refuse to answer. Lyserg, however, hints to horohoro by just looking at his name, hair color and eye color. Horohoro looks carefully and before he realizes, Ren cuts him off and asks when Yoh and Anna are going to arrive. Ryu then arrives and tells that Yoh and Anna were lost and he had to go pick them up at the airport, making Ren Angry and yell, causing all three of his hair spikes to grow alongside with his son copying him.

Shaman King sequels

After many years of a happy successful marriage, Ren and Jeanne continued to live peacefully together as well as raising Men and teaching him everything they can so that he will never repeat the same mistakes as they have in the past, forming a promise between the three of them as a family and sworn to never kill anyone. But this happiness did not last forever. As their usual life would start up, Men who is now a fully grown kid, is shown to be leaving with Ren’s employees and greets his mother off before he leaves. Ren scolds his mischievous son and tells him to not cause any more trouble for his workers. Jeanne sees Ren off but before Ren could leave, she asks what she should make with the cheese arriving from Switzerland. Ren smiles at this and suggests that she should make the Cheesecake she had made previously before as Ren was fond of it. Being delighted with his words, Jeanne smiles and says she will do her best on making it. Later as the day goes on, Jeanne tends to her chores when she gets a message from a video camera that the package arrived. This later resulted in Jeanne encountering Yosuke, Black Maiden and Dong Yong-Hong and as a result, ends up in a conflict as Jeanne tries to persuade Black Maiden to not become a murderer just how she was in the past. Noticing that Yosuke was manipulating Black Maiden and plans to do something bad to her if she doesn’t kill Jeanne, Jeanne then imposes a Death Sentence on herself and before the axe could land, Yohsuke uses a card that stops time freezing time for everyone except for him and Dong-Yong-Hong. Yosuke proceeds to take the gun, fired it at Jeanne’s head, and then returned it to Black Maiden’s hands so that she would believe that she had killed Jeanne. In Jeanne final moments and thoughts, she asks Shamash to protect Men and thanks Ren for loving her, hoping that they will meet again someday.

After Jeanne’s tragic death, Ren and Men were severely devastated from her loss and mourned for her. As Ren hugs his son and comforts him, Men repeatedly cries out “I’ll kill them” and continues sobbing in Ren’s arms. Men then gets out of his grasp and yells that they should go and kill the people that killed his mother. Ren does not respond to this as he stayed silent, making men uneasy and asks Ren why he’s not saying anything. Ren then grabs his hand to form a pinky promise and asks Men if he remembered the promise he has made to both him and Jeanne previously before. Men recalls the promise for a brief second with an image of Jeanne appearing on his mind and then cries angrily, pushing Ren away and exclaims he does not care and still wants to kill the people responsible for Jeanne’s death. In response to this, Ren replies “If that’s what’s right, then after you killed them, you should be killed too.” Men disagrees with his words as he runs to the door, claiming that he’s too strong to be killed and doesn’t care if he dies. As Men tries to leave, Bason and Shamash stops him from leaving. Ren slowly walks towards Men, going on to say he used to have the same mindset as Men when he was younger and that he himself along with Jeanne had previously murdered others in the past when they were younger. “Whatever you do to people, will come back to you!”. In tears, Men asks if he’s saying there is nothing they can do about his mother being killed and says he won’t stand by and do nothing. Ren approaches him and in response, “Nothing? How could you think that? But still… I’ll come to terms with this…”. Men then clashes back, “Your liar! You’ll just endure it! That’s not how you really feel!”, “Yes it is! I’ll come to terms with it because I want to make you and Jeanne happy!”.

Men confronts Ren one last time before being sent off to Japan in preparation for Flower of Maize’s battle. They have a small brief talk about how there can only be only one wish granted if one wins. Men brings up about Ren’s true wish regarding about society but before Men can say anything else, Ren disrupts him and says he can make his own wishes come true with his own hands and it’s not something he needs to ask a “god” to give him. He then kneels before his son and says they will both save Jeanne’s soul at the Flower of Maize.

Shaman King: Marcos

As lyserg, a few of the X-charity members and peyote comes to Mont Saint Michel to face off Spimea Lasso, Denbats expresses his honest feelings about how he rather chooses the path where no one has to fight and brings up if they were to recreate Jeanne’s “ideal” world, which then cuts to Lyserg saying Ren’s way might be the best path. Lyserg notes of Ren’s accomplishments over the years of how his company took over many corporations that have had many heavy influences in their society and that his main goal is to invoke change from the inside starting with the way people’s way of thinking first. Peyote then asks Lyserg if Ren will be joining in the Flower of Maize, leaving Lyserg to reassure him that he will. Lyserg states Ren will change the world with his two hands and his goal at the Flower of the Maize won’t just only create a new world but to save a single person, making that to be his only chance left to bring Jeanne back.

After the X-charity members reunites with Marco, who is now in child form, goes to visit Jeanne’s grave at the Tao family’s estate in China. Both of the Tao family and x-charity members tells Marco about all of the many great accomplishments and big changes Jeanne has made throughout the entire years during his absence. Marco proceeds to weep at all of this and forms his signature X pose. Later, everyone eats dinner at the Tao family’s estate with Marco crying and looking through Ren and Jeanne’s wedding albums alongside with Luchist at the dinner table. Teruko claims how happy she is for Jeanne’s wishes finally being fulfilled and states that Jeanne really wanted Marco to come to her wedding. Denbat and Pomf joins in, saying it was a good thing Marco was not there at the wedding or else the photos would have resulted in Ren getting punched across the face. Marco agrees with porf’s statement and said rather than a punch to the face, depending on the situation if he was there, Ren would’ve most likely suffered a bullet wound. However, Marco acknowledges that Ren was the one who has bought a brilliant smile on Jeanne and that he has nothing but gratitude for Ren.

Shaman King: The Super Star

Bill, Hang Zang-Ching and Brocken goes to inform Ren about the current data they could gather about the enemies as well as the new Shamanic powers and technique known as “New Trance”. Brocken then mentions about Men about how once he makes contact with his guardian ghost, he can never go back to normal ever again. Ren with a nervous smile but also remaining a gentle look as he proceeds to look at a family photo of Jeanne and Men, says he’s fine with Men’s decision as he is not going to interfere in the conflict and respects the path his son has chosen for himself. Ren acknowledges that Men has grown into a far more better man than he ever was and will keep watching him from afar.

2001 anime (Non canon)

In the 2001 version of the Shaman king anime, Ren and Jeanne does not interact in this version nor have any of their moments from the original manga adapted. However, there are a few moments that are considered "RenMei moments" to the fans as there are many notable moments where Ren acknowledges Jeanne's presence several times in this adaption, including calling her by her first name

Lyserg confronts Yoh and the others to try and recruit them into the X-Laws to serve Jeanne. Ren then responds, “Who is this Jeanne?”

Jeanne’s full appearance is shown for the first time, her being impaled and wrapped by thorns in the Iron Maiden. Jun points out she is wrapped in thorns and in Ren’s response he goes “It’s as if she’s trying to hurt herself. What is she thinking?”

Ren is shown to acknowledge Jeanne’s power as he and the others tries to break free from her oversoul.

Children

Men is the son and only child of Ren and Jeanne. As an infant, Tao Men greatly resembles his father, even sporting the same tongari hairstyle. However, he has silver hair and red eyes, traits, which he has inherited from his mother. As a teenager, being a primary school student, Men wears the same school outfit as his father, complete with a golden blazer, a white shirt, and shorts, albeit with a ribbon-bow instead of a tie. He retains the tongari hairstyle, but his hair is now somewhat wavier, another trait from his mother, Jeanne. In his debut, Men shows no distinct personality traits. However, he does manage to burp the word “Baka” to Horohoro, either by chance or by intent. As he gets older, Men is every bit as impulsive, arrogant, and brash like his father. As he is being raised to be the heir of the Tao Family, he also looks down on people he views being below him. His superior attitude and manner of speaking though are reminiscent of his mother, acting serene when not in battle or being agitated. Alumi Niumbirch describes Men as extremely stubborn and obstinate but at the same time he has a tender heart. Despite his bloodlust in battle, Men adheres to an iron-clad rule taught by his parents not to kill anyone. Before the death of his mother, Men appeared more cheerful and Ren even noted he had a tendency to cause mischief.

Fanon

Despite being Canon, RenMei has very little popularity in the Western fandom whereas in other countries, they are well recieved in the Asian fandoms (Japan, China and Korea) They however, still remain to be controversial ship to this day only in the western fandom due to their 4 year age gap as it is heavily implied that they have both dated between the ages being an adult and teenager, as well as Jeanne being a teen mother. The pairing is often hated due to fans having an already preferred couple, fans disliking the way Ren has harshly treated Jeanne when they first met and their lack of interaction in the main series. Over the years, many antis has claimed the pairing to be forced and they only married out of duty whereas other strong supporters of the ship defended the couple, debunking that in the sequel spinoffs (Shaman King Red Crimson and Shaman King: Marcos) does not show any of these signs but rather showing how happy Ren and Jeanne were and them having deep romantic feelings for each other. Despite their low popularity in the western fandom, the ship continues to be loved by their fans alongside with deeply committed fans who strongly dedicates in creating fanworks for the ship.

Although RenMei's romantic history continues to be a mystery, over the years there has been somewhat good number of fanarts, some doujinshis, fanfictions, headcanons and theories that has been made to make up for the lack of love story that fans weren't able to get in canon. Fans tends to ship RenMei because they believe in the potential they have as a couple when they are older (Such as Ren and Jeanne getting to know each other, bonding from their traumatic childhood together, Ren warming up to Jeanne), their dynamic and their chemistry altogether. After Red Crimson and Marcos revealed on how Ren and Jeanne's dynamic and their interactions worked, the fans of the ship supported the couple even more because of this (as well as Ren's loyalty to Jeanne and his love for her being so great to the point where after she died, Ren has suicidal thoughts wanting to end his life just to be with her) There has been other non RenMei fans who used to be neutral and / or was previously an anti before, came to accept the ship after they've seen how the couple worked in both of the spinoffs. Meanwhile a large portion of antis from the main fandom are still not convinced and continues not accepting the pairing

• It is mentioned in the interview part in the official Shaman King character book, Ren would like a girl if she is smaller than him and was not very annoying. |x| After this question was asked, another question was asked if Shamash was counted as his ‘first kiss’. Ren then replies, “THAT DOESN’T COUNT!”. These two interview questions are seen as hints / foreshadowing of the pairing by fans since the question went from being his type of girl he would like to ‘if Shamash was counted as his first’, which leads up hinting (And foreshadowing) that it being Jeanne (Jeanne’s height being 141 while Ren is 150 in the beginning of the series. If we look at Jeanne’s personality, she is soft and kind most of the time and does not have a loud personality.)

• According to the official Japanese ship name, the ship name for Ren x Jeanne is 蓮メイ (RenMei) In Japanese, Jeanne’s full name is pronounced as “Aian Mei-den Jannu” (アイアン・メイデン・ジャンヌ).
• The Korean ship name for Renmei is: 렌잔느
• The Chinese ship name for RenMei is: 莲贞 
  

• At the beginning of the series, Ren started off at 150 cm, Jeanne being 141 cm. At the end of the series, Ren is 175 cm and Jeanne being 155 cm |x|

• Although Renmei was not planned from the beginning according to Takei in a previous interview he answered before, there has been a few semi “Coincidental” moments with them from the 2001 anime.

- In Episode 42, Lyserg confronts Yoh and the others to try and recruit them into the X-Laws to serve Jeanne. Ren then responds, “Who is this Jeanne?”. This specific line is seen as foreshadowing by fans since in the future, Jeanne is Ren’s future wife.

- In Episode 43, Jeanne’s full appearance is shown for the first time, her being impaled and wrapped by thorns in the Iron Maiden. This then cuts to Jun, pointing out she is wrapped in thorns and Ren replying “It’s as if she’s trying to hurt herself. What is she thinking?” 

- In Episode 56, Ren was shown to acknowledge Jeanne’s power as he and the others tries to break free from her oversoul 

- In Episode 63, in one scene, Jeanne was mentioning “The light of hope has not gone out yet” and the next scene, it cuts to Ren. In contrast to episode 63, in the manga, chapter 276, One scene was shown Jeanne praying for the “warriors” and the next page showed ren as the chapter’s cover art. 

- Ren has mentioned Jeanne’s name 2 times in the 2001 anime. 

• In the 2001 anime, almost everyone including Ren, calls Jeanne by her first actual name (Jeanne) However, in the Shaman King manga and 2021 anime, she is referred as Maiden / Maiden-sama instead by everyone. Much later on however in their older years when they got together, Ren now calls Jeanne by her actual name.

• According to 2021 Anime’s first appearances of Ren and Jeanne, they were both shown to tilt their heads to the left. This may however, be coincidental.

• They both killed older brothers from a family, Chrome and Anahol. Later, both were confronted by the younger brothers, Nichrome and Anatel, who then killed them in the process. Ren and Jeanne allowed themselves to be killed to atone for their crimes.

• At times, Ren is depicted as an emperor and Jeanne being depicted as a Princess |x|

• In both designs, they seem to be associated with spikes, Ren’s hair being styled into a “Tongari” and Jeanne’s battle outfit having a spiky tip on her battle helmet, spikes on both sides of her abdomen and spikes in her footwear as well as altogether of her staying in the Iron Maiden.

• Ren and Jeanne are often associated with the color purple due to their designs, Ren’s hair being dark-purple and Jeanne’s battle outfit being purple. In most of the merchandise, their color schemes are always purple.

• They are also associated with the letter “X”. 
• Jeanne is associated with “X” Laws 
• In a Merch collaboration between “Shaman King x Village Vanguard”, Jeanne is shown to wear an outfit with “X’s” on her headband and on her dress design as well.
• Ren has an outfit with “X’s” as his buttons 
• Adult Ren wears an “X” Shaped Hair clip
• They are both running “X” Charity together (Jeanne being the first to form this but much later on, Ren took over due to Jeanne’s maternity leave and retirement.)

• In most official art and merch advertisements, they are always either shown almost near each other or shown on opposite sides of each other  Ironically, they also have opposite personalities, Ren being serious, logical and aloof while Jeanne being more soft and kind.

• In a perfume merch, Ren’s smell is lime and Jeanne’s smell being lemon. 

• In the manga, Ren and Jeanne are seen to be topless at times, them wearing similar pants to one another.

There are at least 3 major hints of foreshadowing of Renmei in the manga

• Chapters 178-181 were the first hints of Renmei, as shown in one of these chapters, Jeanne revived Ren for the first time by making Shamash revive Ren with a kiss (Chapter 180) Chapter 180 was also titled “First kiss”
• In this chapter, Jeanne brings up the story “Sleeping beauty” and explains it. Just like the story Jeanne had explain, it also contrasts with Ren being the “princess” and Jeanne being the “prince” to awaken (revive) him with a kiss.
• Ren was also shown to be blushing when Jeanne states he will be revived with a “kiss”.

• In chapter 274 , when Magna tried to “kill” Jeanne by crushing the Iron Maiden, it appeared that no one was inside it. Ren’s expression was shown to be soft, mentioning that Jeanne revived Ren and HoroHoro and was left behind in the plant of valley.

In chapter 277, in one scene, Chocolove mentions Ren talked to Jeanne in “secret” which Ren replied that he didn’t want to bother responding to his question. It has been heavily implied that Ren and Jeanne may have likely interacted when Jeanne revived him the 2nd time.

• Although however, in the 2021 anime (Episode 48) They changed Joco’s lines and was instead changed to “I know that! You could just whisper it to me!”

• In a extra chapter (Shaman King Fanbook 2), Jeanne was shown on the cover art for the extra chapter, wearing a veil and praying.
• The wedding veil Jeanne worn is also similar to that veil as well.

• In March 2nd 2017, Takei posted an official art of Adult Ren with baby Men on Jeanne’s birthday. |x|
• The name ‘Men‘ means industry and is formed by taking the first kana (“ME"（メ) of Maiden and the last kana (“EN"（ン）) from Ren. This is the same method of naming is the same as Asakura Hana.
• When Jeanne find out she was pregnant, she cuts her hair so her hair wouldn’t get in the way when she holds him. She also stopped wearing dresses with frills as well.
• Since Jeanne is French and Ren is Chinese, that would make men a mixed Chinese-French child.
• After giving birth to Men and going on Maternity leave, Jeanne eventually retires from X-Charity and since then, Ren has been running her organization.
• In Red Crimson, while comforting Men and telling him more about Jeanne, Ren mentions younger Jeanne was beautiful because of her long hair and the frilly dresses she had worn.
• In the sequels (Red Crimson and Marcos) Ren and Jeanne are shown to have a lot of physical contact at times such as Ren putting his hands on her shoulders and hips at times, showing affection. 
• In Red Crimson, In some panels, Ren and Jeanne are shown to have similar walking stances

Shaman King Funbari Chronicles Trivia

Shaman King Funbari Chronicles (In short, also known as Funkuro) is a RPG-based mobile gacha game that was released in Japan in December 8th 2021 and ran for nearly 2 years until it discontinued in July of 2023. Despite it’s very short run, the game includes Ren and Jeanne as playable characters to obtain from the gacha and there have been coincidental moments, Easter eggs, ship teasing,  hints and foreshadowing’s in the game regarding them.

1.) The player gets to customize teams and they can put Ren and Jeanne in battles / have them fight alongside with each other. 

- In the game, it is known that before the battle starts, characters would usually pass words to each other (This only occurs if the characters already have a established connection to each other such as Yoh and Anna, Team the Ren, Hanagumi girls, etc.) However Ren and Jeanne does not pass any words to each other before battle. This is because Ren and Jeanne does not have an established connection or interactions in the original Shaman King series.

-However, while there is no voice lines of them interacting in the game, there is a few moments that can be taken as a RenMei “moment” by fans where Jeanne would heal Ren and Ren responds to getting healed. However these specific voice lines is not limited to just only Ren and Jeanne since Jeanne’s healing voice lines is universally used on all characters in the game, including Ren’s voice line response to him getting healed by other healers. 

2.) The player gets to put Ren and Jeanne in a inn in the game where the inn gets to showcase some “moments” with them at times. This however, can be interpreted as either coincidental moments or a ship moment.

3.) In the game, there is a special 3 stars character ticket (Golden ticket) that has 3 star characters coming at random if the player uses the ticket to summon. In this specific ticket, Ren and Jeanne are the only ones to be shown as the preview ticket’s thumbnail image (And as well as them being shown to be right next to each other in the banner’s image)

4.) In the 1st half anniversary of Shaman King Funbari Chronicles that was held in June 2022, in Ryu’s shop shows a special shop limited to getting seasonal characters in the game. Ren and Jeanne are shown to be right next each other as the thumbnail image in the shop.

5.) In the training ground section, the players gets three following sections to play in (In Order from top to bottom): 

1. Fighting other players online
2. Fighting same specific colored NPC mono teams 
3. Fighting normal NPCs / Practice fighting against other players teams and against friends 

In the 3rd section, “Fighting normal NPCs” showcases 3 kinds of NPC teams, Funbari Onsen, Team the Ren and Team Hanagumi. 

In Team the Ren, Jeanne is shown to be in this team as a backup. There has been some speculations from fans that Jeanne’s placement in Ren’s team may be foreshadowing that Jeanne will establish a connection to Ren and becoming a Tao in the future but it is unknown if this official placement was either intentional or a coincidence.

6.) In a 2022 seasonal event, Valentine’s day, showcases a School AU where Jeanne is included in this event as a character unit alongside with Marion and Kanna (Matilda is also a free character unit in this event) as students. According to Jeanne’s bio, it translates to: 

Jeanne, as the Saint President, maintains order at the school. She is known as the “Pure White Angel” of the school and some students envy her. She is kind to everyone but there is only one student she does not know how to deal with. 

 There has been many speculation from fans that the one student Jeanne has trouble dealing with may have to do with Ren. 

This bio is re-used again in her other unit (Pure blood and Innocence) 

7.) In a 2022 seasonal event held in October, it has been confirmed that Ren attends the same school as Jeanne in the official Funkuro school AU (As seen in Purple (School) Jun’s 3 star art and in Green (School) Jeanne’s 3 star art) 

There has been a few RenMei ship teasing’s that appeared during the 2022 October event:

In this image, many fans have speculated that Jeanne may have likely interacted with Ren, who is running a Peach bun’s stall during the school festival and is shown to be eating peach buns as she happily walks off from his stall afterwards. But however, this is not true as according to her special unit story, Jeanne interacted with everybody at the festival but except for Ren. |x| 

In Green Jeanne’s special mission, Ren and Jeanne are shown together in the thumbnail image.

The Vision card where Shamash revives Ren was also included in Green (School) Jeanne’s banner. In this card, Ren and Jeanne are the only characters that are able to use this card as bonuses that enhances their skills further in battle. 

Translation of Ren and Jeanne’s vision card:

• If Green attribute, the attack power will increase by 40%
• If Green attribute, the recovery heals will increases by 15%
• If Green attribute, the recovery heals will increased by 20%

8.) In July of 2022, Jeanne gets a special campaign story. In August 2022, Ren also gets a special campaign story. Both stories are completely different but however, both themes of their stories were emotional/angst focused. 

 After their special campaign stories were released, they would later get new units, Jeanne’s new unit (Also known as “Iron Maiden Jeanne Umikaze Duo” アイアンメイデン・ジャンヌ【海風のデュオ】) releasing in August while Ren’s new unit (Ren in the Mud 道 蓮【泥中の蓮】) came out in September.

9.) In a section called “Quest” exists multiple sections, including “Rarity Material”. Rarity Material is a section where players collect character’s special orange “orbs” and farm (Also known as collecting) for various characters on a daily basis. This section includes almost all of the standard characters in a wide list. 

In a previous version of Funkuro, at the very bottom of the list showcases Ren and Jeanne being right next to each other. However in the now current version, they are no longer next to each other.

10.) In Funkuro’s final and last Shaman fight that was held from June 5th to July 12th 2023, Ren and Jeanne were placed on the same team together in the 3rd battle in the final Fight. 

While they did not pass any words on the same team together, they were shown to cooperate with each other during in battle (Jeanne raising up defensive shields on the both of them (Turns 1, 3, 6), Jeanne raising both of their attacks up (Turn 5), Ren raising up their status effect attacks (Turn 6) and Jeanne curing any status effects they both had that were inflicted by the player’s team. (Turn 7)

They also inflict double damage to the player’s team, Ren’s inflicting electricity attacks and Jeanne inflicting Bleed attacks; This can also result in the player’s team dying quickly if electricity and bleed resistance VC’s are not equipped on the player’s team.

Ren and Jeanne are actually shown to have high combability as a couple when it comes to the following: Zodiac signs, the Chinese zodiac and Blood type.

Zodiac Signs and Compatibility

• Ren is Capricorn (January 1st), Jeanne is Pisces (March 2nd)
